Councillor Judith Blake would like to issue a special message to all those celebrating Ramadan across the city.
Dear friends,
As Muslims across Leeds prepare for Ramadan I would like to send my very best wishes during this special time of prayer and reflection.
Ramadan is an important time for Muslims and is based on values of charity, family, and community. It is a period of spiritual reflection where Muslims fast and abstain from dawn to dusk, followed by a period of eating and prayers. Every year, I witness the togetherness that Ramadan brings and want to thank you for the enormous contribution made by Muslims towards a fair and more just society in our wonderful, compassionate and welcoming city.
I appreciate that unlike other years, this year, the practice of fasting and meeting your wider spiritual obligations during Ramadan in the way that you would normally do will be more challenging under the current COVID-19 emergency.
I wish you a safe, joyous and blessed Ramadan during this holy month.
Ramadan Kareem.
Cllr Judith Blake CBE
Leader – Leeds City Council
