Leeds City Council
Borrow our speed indication device!
Our speed indication device, or SID, for short is the council’s mobile radar activated device that’s free to borrow, easy to set up, transport and use.
It displays vehicles’ speed and a ‘smiley’ face symbol when a driver travels within the limit but shows a ‘frowning’ face’ or slow down message when they exceed the limit. It’s easy to move and can be reset to different speed limits, allowing you to observe different locations.
Drivers who exceed the limit can’t be prosecuted, but the device is great at increasing awareness on roads where there’s a problem with vehicles travelling too fast. It can also help to influence motorists’ speeding behaviour through education.
Full training will be provided, and the monitoring data will be downloaded and sent out to your group on return of the device.
Vision Zero is LCC’s ambition is that by 2040 no one will be killed or suffer serious injury on roads in Leeds. One of the guiding principles is that tackling road danger is everyone’s responsibility. We can all play our part to create an environment and culture where we can cycle, walk, and travel on roads free from danger.
If your community group would like to borrow S.I.D. or you want more information, contact us at road.safety@leeds.gov.uk or visit borrow a SID for your area.
