Added: 13/09/2022
Chapeltown PCN Funding
Chapeltown Primary Care Network (PCN), in collaboration with Forum Central have launched a fund to support work with Black men in Chapeltown, with a focus on mental health.
The pot of £34,000 aims to help better understand and improve the health of Black men in the Chapeltown area of Leeds
Black men experience health inequalities around mental health, and we know from conversations and relationships in Chapeltown that there is a stigma for Black men around consulting and accessing services around mental health. Many feel that the existing services are not accessible or appropriate for them. Additionally, those who do access services often do at a late stage and are in need of more complex mental health support.
Grants of between £5,000 and £15,000 are available for VCSE groups and organisations to deliver work which delivers on the following aims:
• To build and strengthen relationships between health services and people who live and work in Chapeltown and the voluntary and community sector who have trusted relationships in the communities. To better understand the barriers to improving health and accessing health and care services.
• To coproduce innovative ways to improve health and remove barriers to accessing health service.
• To extend/build on existing work.
Examples of the type of activity that could be funded include (this not an exhaustive list):
- Peer Support Groups
- Sport and/or outdoor activities
- Arts and music
- Mentoring
- Therapeutic Support
- Information and signposting
