Exciting new development for young people at The Hunslet Club

The Hunslet Club

The Hunslet Club in South Leeds is making changes to benefit the young people they support. They have recently formed a youth ambassador program to give young people a voice and to understand what they need from The Hunslet Club.

The first meeting took place on Tuesday, 7th March, with the second meeting due to take place in April, with the CEO of The Hunslet Club. Our youth ambassadors are already off to a flying start, as they brought new ideas to the table in their first meeting. Each youth ambassador answered questions about what they love about The Hunslet Club, what they would improve and moments they are proud of, amongst other questions.

Leah, one of our new youth ambassadors, said she loved ‘the friends you make, how the staff are kind and will speak to you about everything’.

Leah also shared one of her proudest moments at The Hunslet Club: ‘ volunteering in the junior youth club’, which gave her the experience and confidence to babysit outside the club.

Gracie, another youth ambassador, shared that she would recommend The Hunslet Club to friends because ‘I made all my friends here’.

With their insight and unique perspective, The Hunslet Club can incorporate activities that our young people need moving forward.

Alex Barwell, The Hunslet Club’s new Senior Intervention Officer, had this to say about the Youth Ambassador Program:

“The Youth Ambassador Program is an excellent opportunity for The Hunslet Club and our young people. This program allows young people to expand their skills and help develop the youth centre. Whether discussing new facilities, repairing the old or diversifying what we already do, our youth ambassadors will be actively involved at every stage.

Not only will this new program provide them with a wealth of work experience, but we will also help them develop their own projects throughout the year.

The youth ambassadors will be the face of our multifaceted youth centre, representing the centre’s ambitions and goals while also bringing a voice to the young people we wish to support.”

Our newly instated youth ambassadors will also gain access to new opportunities, have recognition for being a leader, and have the space to develop their professional and personal skills.

This youth ambassador program is how we continue to make The Hunslet Club a youth-led organisation, which means we want them to help shape our decisions and have a say in what resources they need. We are here to support their ideas and elevate their voices.

Overall, we cannot wait to see how our new youth ambassadors will make a positive difference to The Hunslet Club, our youth clubs, and the community.
