Experienced Community Worker/Leader Wanted for Grant-giving Foundation Trustee Role

Leeds Building Society Foundation – a grant-giving organisation which donates up to a £1,000 to small charities based in the UK with a turnover of less than £1m – is looking to recruit two new external trustees to its board and are particularly keen to hear from experienced community workers and leaders who are working on the frontline.

Since 1999 the Foundation has donated more than £2,000,000 to 3,000 local projects and good causes across the UK, which support those who are disadvantaged or in vulnerable circumstances. The Foundation primarily provides funding towards practical items that directly support those in need including those with disabilities, affected by homelessness, or with serious health issues.

As a Trustee of the Leeds Building Society Foundation, you’ll be responsible for coordinating charitable donations at quarterly meetings throughout the year, usually in March, June, September and November. You’ll influence the Foundation’s future strategy and funding approach in 2022. Establishing social themes to support and aligning the Foundation’s purpose closer to Leeds Building Society’s purpose.

Please note this is a voluntary position.

Do you have the skills and experience needed for this role?

  • Evidence of previous community and charitable work.
  • Evidenced interest in strategic approaches to community giving.
  • An understanding of social value, social return on investment and ability to review projects deliverables and impact, while measuring risk.
  • An understanding of social issues which are facing charities and communities with particular focus on disadvantaged and/or disenfranchised groups across various age groups.
  • Relationships within various and ethnic community groups.
  • Ability to follow a robust review process, distil information and make clear, balanced and well-informed judgements.
  • Well organised and able to work as part of a team of Trustees from within and outside of the Society.
