Find out your Risk of Developing Type 2 Diabetes
Leeds City council
Finding out your risk of Type 2 diabetes only takes a few minutes and could be the most important thing you do today.
Did you know your age and/or ethnicity may put you at further risk of developing Type 2 Diabetes? Evidence shows that if you’re over 25 and of south Asian or black origin you are two to four times more likely to develop Type 2 Diabetes. The risk of developing Type 2 Diabetes is also relevant for other ethnicities with the risk significantly increasing if you are over 40 years old.
Left untreated Type 2 Diabetes increases your risk of having a stroke and developing long term health conditions such as heart disease and is a major contributor of sight loss and kidney failure. That’s why it’s really important that you find out if you are at risk. Because those who are, can get free support to help them significantly lower their chances of developing it.
If you’re identified as high risk you will be invited to sign up to your local Healthier You NHS Diabetes Prevention Programme. Support will be given to make positive changes to your diet, weight and the amount of physical activity that you do.
