Leeds City Council

Have your say on the Briggate Action Plan: Consultation under way now.

Leeds City Council would like your views.  In response to the results from our city centre perceptions survey in 2024, we are proposing a set of changes designed to make the city centre a safer, more attractive and enjoyable place for everyone.

These proposals include:

  • Extending the pedestrianised hours of Briggate and the surrounding streets, from 10:30 – 19:00 to 10:00 – 20:00.
  • The 24-hour pedestrianisation of Lower Albion Street, between Boar Lane and Commercial Street
  • Restrictions to riding bikes and e-bikes during pedestrianised hours on Briggate and the surrounding streets
  • Restrictions on street peddling, including on Briggate and the surrounding streets, near high-capacity venues, and during large city events.

This consultation gives residents, businesses, and anyone with an interest in the city centre the opportunity to have their say on these proposals before any final decisions are made. Your views are important and will help shape how we move forward to create a welcoming, vibrant and safe city centre.

The consultation is open until 23 January 2026.  You can take part here: www.leeds.gov.uk/briggateactionplan
