Join a ‘Community Conversation’ with Leeds Involving People & Birthrights

Added: 27/01/2026

We’re excited to invite you to take part in a Community Conversation hosted by Leeds Involving People in partnership with Birthrights, the UK charity dedicated to protecting and promoting human rights in pregnancy and childbirth.

What is a Community Conversation?

A Community Conversation is a safe, inclusive space where we come together to:

  • Reflect on experiences of pregnancy, birth, and postnatal care
  • Talk about what it means to be listened to, respected, and supported
  • Learn more about human rights in maternity care in everyday, practical terms
  • Explore what helps or makes it hard for people to speak up or advocate for themselves
  • Share ideas that will help design future training and tools for empowerment

These conversations will help shape national Birthrights workshops and advocacy work — so your insights will have a real impact on how maternity care is delivered and understood.

📌 Important: At this stage, we are asking people to express their interest in attending.

We will then confirm places by 5th February 2026 (as spaces are limited).

Session One (for birthing people and families)
Thursday 19th February 2026, 10am–1pm
Leeds Black Elders Association, 3 Reginald Terrace, LS7 3EZ.
£20 shopping voucher provided for taking part

Session Two (for doulas, support workers, community advocates and healthcare professionals)
Thursday 19th February 2026, 1.30pm-4.30pm
Leeds Black Elders Association, 3 Reginald Terrace, LS7 3EZ.

The session will include:

  • A short welcome and introduction to Birthrights
  • Open, story-based discussions in small groups
  • A co-design activity exploring what true advocacy and empowerment look like
  • Space for reflection and connection

Food and refreshments will be provided, and we have a limited budget for travel support.

If you are interested in attending, or you know someone who may be interested, please share these details with them.  You will also find a leaflet below:

To express your interest, please complete this form: https://forms.office.com/e/f8qiYDgsQr.

If you can’t attend on 19th February, there may still be scope for you to be involved in the project, so please do let us know if you are interested.

Why Your Voice Matters

Your experience and insights will help shape training and advocacy that reflects your community’s culture, priorities, and challenges. Together, we can build a clearer picture of what rights-respecting maternity care looks like — and how we can all play a role in making it happen.
