Play Sufficiency – Parent Survey – https://surveys.leeds.gov.uk/s/QGY738/
We’re asking for support getting as many parents as possible to complete our parent survey for our Play Sufficiency research. If parent’s have more than one child, they can just answer thinking about one child, or complete the survey more than once. The more parent survey’s we get completed, the more robust the data which can be used to help shape future working, with information hopefully beneficial to us all.
Please could you share amongst your team, and any parents you may work with and ask for their support getting as many surveys completed as possible? It could be shared via newsletters/social media/direct mail out etc. If anyone would like more information then I’m happy to talk. We’ll soon be pulling together parent focus groups and front line practitioner focus groups, so we may be back in touch with some of you for this.
Tennis
Our tennis activator is planning to kick start some Tennis For Free (TFF) sessions at Cross Flatts Park on Sundays between 2:30-4pm from March/April 2022. There will be a coach at these sessions, but to support we’ll be looking for any volunteers/local heroes/local activity leaders/activators in the area that would be interested in assisting the Tennis For Free sessions. If you know of someone who might be interested in supporting then get in touch.
Park Play
Watch this space for new Park Play sessions coming soon to Brickfield Park in Beeston Hill and then Jaily Fields in New Wortley. These will be free weekly family sessions, running all year round on a Saturday, whatever the weather. We’re still keen to find a local person from New Wortley/Armley to support that session if you know of anyone. We’ve a coach in place who will mentor them, until they’re ready to go it alone. Watch this space for information coming out soon for the Brickfield Park session starting soon.
Get Set Leeds Local funding
Quick reminder of the 3 pots of money we have available through Get Set Leeds Local. If you have any ideas, or have residents approach you with ideas then get in touch. We want to hear insight/ideas and see how collectively we can help create communities more people feel they can be more active in.
- Community Chest Pot – up to £300 for a community good idea which will support people to “move more”
- Building Capacity – funding to help individuals access training and upskilling opportunities
- Co-produced projects
Over the last 12 months we’ve been able to support the development of the successful Cross Flatts Park Roll, develop a cycle hub at Cross Flatts Park, help develop a weekly women’s basketball session, lend some support to the mighty Holbeck Moor FC, purchase table tennis tables for Holbeck Together, Dewsbury Road Hub and facilitate getting new outdoor tables at NWCC, Holbeck Moor and Cross Flatts Park, help fund training for a number of courses and a tonne of other good stuff, with the ideas for all coming directly from residents themselves. Keep in touch and keep the ideas flowing. What stops people being active, and what might help make it easier?
Love Exploring
For those that don’t know, the Love Exploring App includes walking trails and games for families (hunting for dinosaurs or other seasonal themed things) within parks and green spaces.
- We’re currently looking for small focus groups who are unlikely to have used the app. We’re looking for groups of 5 – 8 adults for a face to face focus groups. The research partner (ERS) will go through what the app is, and explore whether people may use it, why they might not, what any thoughts on it may be. The focus group can be incentivised with a £5 shopping voucher, or a bit of money towards room hire or refreshments.
- If you have a small group who meets who may be happy to be part of a focus group please can you let me know.
- Trails – At the moment we have no trails within our localities. I’d love to co-produce a new trail with a group if you have one who might be interested in working with us. It would be great to add in a new trail for Holbeck, Beeston Hill or New Wortley. It could be a themed walk (arts trail, history trail etc)
- The games – currently its set up for dinosaurs in Cross Flatts Park, Gotts & Armley Park and Middleton Park for my areas (see photo to see what it is). If you think families may make use of it in different green spaces let me know and we can look at what we can do. Its likely there will be a Christmas themed one set up for Cross Flatts – I’ll keep you posted.
Cycling
The hub of bikes we set up at Cross Flatts Park this summer has had an amazing impact on the individuals who have used them. There’s more planned to help make more bikes accessible to more groups in 2022. Keep in touch on anything around cycling from the community. Insight is really helpful for us to influence the parts of the jigsaw which will help get more people on bikes.
Cycle North continue to deliver sessions in Cross Flatts Park. If you know of an adult wanting to learn to ride a bike/build cycle confidence then please do signpost them Adult training | United Kingdom | Cycle North
