Leeds Digital Marketing Agency Spike has raised £1500 for Leeds North & West Foodbank by walking 3,299,129 million steps in just 30 days.

The step challenge event (walk 2.5 mil steps in 30 days starting November 16th) initially arose as an idea to keep Spike’s 13 employees’ minds strong and motivated throughout the lockdown period, however Spike recognised it has been a tough year for lots of families in the local community, so wanted to give something back.

Spike has achieved their target of 2.5 million steps and will donate £1500 to Leeds North & West Foodbank after surpassing their target.

Leeds North and West foodbank is a project founded by local churches and community groups. They work towards stopping hunger in the local area. Leeds North and West Founded was initially founded in Moortown in 2013 and since this time, they now have 9 foodbank centres across North and West Leeds. 11 sessions a week are run, to support people in their local area.

Jitka Lopez, Marketing Strategy Manager at Spike commented:

“When lockdown 2.0 was announced, we knew it would have a harder impact on everyone. We are so pleased the team has hit the target, and we feel much better for partaking in this challenge which is for a really important local charity.

The days are now much shorter, the temperatures are lower and people are likely to spend more time inside compared to the spring lockdown so this initiative has kept us moving, when it has got harder to do so.”

Spike’s directors Duncan Colman and Rob Powell are donating £1500 to Leeds North & West Foodbank.

Duncan Colman commented:

“Rob and myself are pleased to be able to donate to Leeds & North West, they work very hard to deliver food to those who need it the most, in difficult times. We’ve been quite fortunate to have had a positive year as a business, most recently expanding the team.

It’s good to have been able to give something back to the local community and we hope it brings some joy and happiness to the community.

Tricia Ryder, Distribution centre manager for Leeds North and West foodbank added:

“Thank you very much to Leeds Digital agency Spike for donating £1500 and for the brilliant steps tally! Your support is greatly valued and we know this donation will help those who need it the most.”
