Leeds Festival salvaging 2024

Leeds festival salvaging

Leeds Festival is happening in 2 months. I estimate 1 million pounds worth of goods are left behind by festival goers. 250,000 tents are left behind at music festivals in the UK every year. These figures are a terrible indictment of consumption and waste management in the UK and at music festivals.

I’ve organised salvaging for 4 years now.
In 2021, 3 of us with 1 van salvaged £700 worth of stuff.
In 2022, 40 of us with 2 vans salvaged £10,000 worth of stuff.
In 2023, 80 of us with 9 vans salvaged £55,000.
In 2024, I’d like to salvage £200,000 worth of stuff with approximately 15 vans and 150 volunteers.

Would anyone like to help salvage at Leeds Festival? You could go and collect stuff for foodbanks (Armley yum pantry), for the Library of things, refugee charities, St Luke’s cares charity shop or Leeds homeless charities, or for upcycling purposes. Its on Monday 26th August (bank holiday) between approximately 2pm -8pm.

All the waste will otherwise be macerated up and incinerated sadly. https://www.leedsfestival.com/information-category/staying-green/

This page has info on Salvaging as well as being a Green volunteer (helping people take down tents etc).   Email them for more info.

Or if you want to come with us, help us and salvage under our umbrella then sign up on this google form:

Please share with anyone interested in helping refugees, homelessness, foodbanks, libraries of things, or upcycling projects.
