Low Carbon Lunch Event: Microgrants for Community Groups

Food Wise Leeds

Leeds City Council in partnership with FoodWise Leeds is hosting a Low Carbon Lunch event on Wednesday 29 Sept. 11am – 2pm at Kirkgate Market. The Council will declare its commitments to the Glasgow Food & Climate Declaration by announcing pledged to reduce carbon emissions through food procured by the Council.  Everyone is welcome to attend.

To encourage community engagmement, FoodWise is providing microgrants to community groups to host local events.

Host a Low Carbon Lunch

FoodWise is keen to engage community groups and organizations in the low carbon food conversation to talk about how we can make simple changes to our diet that help to the reduce the environmental impact of our food.

FoodWise is providing 8x £25 microgrants to help community groups and organizations host  Low Carbon Lunch events on Sept 29th or during that week.

The grant can be spent on purchasing food, providing recipe packs to attendees, printing etc. The lunch can be part of a regular group activity or a specific event.

FoodWise can provide information on what a low carbon lunch is to help you plan your event.

How to apply – DEADLINE TUES 21 SEPT

  • Tell us about your event and what the money will be used for
  • Provide a contact name, email and phone number so we can contact you easily
  • Provide account details for your organization
  • Commit to sharing a photo of your Low Carbon Lunch event on social media using the hashtags #lowcarbonlunch #food4planet and tagging @foodwiseleeds

What is a Low Carbon Lunch?

A low carbon lunch is:

  • mostly vegetables and pulses
  • minimally processed
  • locally sourced to build community wealth
  • seasonal for maximum taste and affordability
  • less and better meat and dairy
  • no food wasted
