As of the 1 January 2022 Mark, Law will be stepping down as Chief Executive Officer of Barca-Leeds.
Whilst it is sad to see such a long serving member of Barca-Leeds leave, it is also great time to celebrate the storied and innovative work that Mark has accomplished during his time as CEO.
When Barca-Leeds started, it emerged from the work of Bramley Parish Community projects, using a small team to help and support vulnerable young people in the local community. Since it’s founding the organisation has developed into one of the largest community anchors in Leeds, with multiple teams and initiatives designed to help a wide range of disadvantaged or vulnerable people across the city.
In a recent statement Mark spoke about why he was stepping down: “As founding Chief Executive Officer, it was always my intention to leave the organisation in a strong position, with opportunities for development providing incredible services across the city.”
Mark has introduced many innovative projects in the sector during his time with Barca, notably the Community Drug Treatment Services, Social Prescribing, West Yorkshire Finding Independence (WYFI), Family Drug and Alcohol Court (FDAC) and maintaining high quality family and youth work services.
Mark will be handing over his position to Helen Hart. Mark commented that “Helen has worked for Barca-Leeds for 20 years and began working with Barca-Leeds as a student on placement on 2001” she has been part of the Senior Management team since 2008 with her most recent role being Managing Director.
Mark Law will be remembered as someone who always put the work ahead of himself. He is regarded as someone who has the foresight to help build a small group of community project workers into a city-wide charity that is highly regarded by many. He is known to have great compassion when handling the many issues Barca-Leeds deals with regularly as well as having a strong belief in the charity and helping those most disadvantaged and vulnerable.
“I would like to take this opportunity on behalf of myself and the Board of Trustees to thank Mark for his contribution towards the development of Barca-Leeds. The organisation has grown incredibly over the last 27 years which is down to Mark’s leadership with support from his colleagues within the senior management team.”
-Quote from Stewart Firth (Chair of the Barca-Leeds)
“I would like to take this opportunity to wish Helen all the best in her new role and I am confident that Barca-Leeds will thrive under her leadership.”
