New LGBTQ+ Inclusion Project Launches

Added: 30/06/2021

Advonet

Starting this summer, a new project for LGBTQ+ people who are autistic and/or have a learning disability will start work. The LGBTQ+ Inclusion Project is led by CHANGE, part of The Advonet Group and Yorkshire MESMAC.

It is funded by a grant from The National Lottery Community Fund, lasting for three years. They will work with adults throughout West Yorkshire and Harrogate.

What the project does

The new project will offer:

  • Free self-advocacy courses for LGBTQ+ people (who have a learning disability and/or autism) to learn more about their rights and to build up their self-confidence.
  • Co-created peer support programme to increase connections and confidence amongst LGBTQ+ people who have a learning disability and/or autism.
  • Free co-created training for Health and Social Care professionals delivered by people who have lived experience of these barriers and discrimination.
  • New accessible resources.

Steering Group

CHANGE are looking for volunteers to join a steering group to help oversee what the project does. If you are an LGBTQ+ adult who is autistic and/or has a learning disability and want to be in the group, please contact Jude by email at Jude@changepeople.org or call CHANGE on 0113 242 6691.

For more information about the project itself, please go to this link on the CHANGE website: https://www.changepeople.org/our-work/lgbtq-inclusion-project.
