Police Precept and Policing Priorities – Focus Groups

Added: 08/01/2024

West Yorkshire Combined Authority

The Mayor of West Yorkshire Tracy Brabin is responsible for setting the annual budget for West Yorkshire Police. This includes agreeing the local ‘police precept’ – the part of the Council Tax that helps to fund local policing.

West Yorkshire Police would like to take an opportunity to talk to local residents across West Yorkshire about their views on the Precept and about policing, crime and community safety issues and are therefore hosting a series of focus groups. This will be a focussed 1 hour session for a maximum of 12 people.

The key objectives include:

  • Gathering feedback from a more diverse groups of residents including under 35s
  • Identifying any gaps within the current Police and Crime plan
  • To understand if those we speak to support in principle an increase in the Council Tax to support the Police Precept and if so, could they support an increase.
  • Obtain feedback on policing services which will inform our work.
