The Swan Song Project seeks support this Christmas – can you help?
The Swan Song Project
The Swan Song Project is a Leeds based charity that gives people living with terminal illnesses or dealing with bereavement the opportunity to write and record their own original song free of charge. Songwriter Ben Buddy Slack was inspired set up the charity in 2017 after losing his grandma and regretting not recording her singing with him.
The songwriting process is deeply therapeutic, it allows people to reflect on their lives and relationships and communicate them in a lasting and unique way. We set up a virtual songwriting service to continue our work during COVID-19.
Stephanie Ingham, who used our virtual service, said:
“I hadn’t realised that music would heal and bring my family closer together, but it did. My mum, sister and I are now so close, three musketeers.”
Christmas is synonymous with song and we hope that we can count on your support this festive season. We rely on donations to carry out our work. Here are just a couple of ways to make a difference this Christmas:
- Please click this link https://youtu.be/vQYsH9gk8HQ, hit the thumbs up button under the video (whilst logged in to YouTube) before midday on 21st December and share widely with your networks. We have chance to win £5,000 from Marsh Commercial but need as many votes as possible. As a small charity that makes a big impact we hope that you will help us
- Get involved in #XmasPartyHeroes and donated the unused cost of your staff Christmas party to The Swan Song Project. See https://xmaspartyheroes.co.uk/ for details
Any support that you are able to offer will be hugely appreciated. £10, for example, could enable us to send a CD containing a Swan Song in the post to five family members selected by the songwriter themselves. £300 is the average cost of creating a Swan Song, from starting the songwriting sessions to sending out the finished recording.
The Swan Song Project is unique and each song means so much. Sometimes these are played at funerals. Sometimes these are shared with the world via our website. Sometimes these are played in private. Your support would mean so much.
