What is Third Sector Leeds?

Third Sector Leeds is an independent collective of third sector voices; the leading strategic body that advocates for the third sector’s values and interests in Leeds. TSL plays a critical role in the city’s formal structures and in the relationships that enable partnerships between the third and public sectors.

Our direction is governed by a group of third sector leaders – our Leadership Group – who are recognised as having the skills and experience to be able advocate for their field of work. Although our Leadership Group directs our day-to-day work, we are accountable to our membership; all third sector organisations working in Leeds. We work hard to ensure that the sector knows the positions we take on their behalf– our support team routinely publish our work and write a quarterly newsletter.

TSL’s terms of reference

Things TSL have been working on recently:

  • Toolkits and resources to support third sector organisations to recruit and support a more diverse workforce
  • Holding local events to examine the impact of the cost of living crisis on smaller organisations
  • Working with partners across health, higher education and Leeds City Council to produce an ambitious strategy for the third sector in Leeds

We have recently reviewed our terms of reference and are seeking to recruit third sector leaders to a number of voluntary positions onto our Leadership Group (the body that sets our direction). If you have recent experience in one of the fields listed below and are involved in the third sector in Leeds we’d love to hear from you.

What’s involved?

You’ll need to give around an hour and a half every 6 weeks (normally a Monday afternoon, alternately online and in person) and spend around 1 hour offering comments on discussions between meetings.

Twice a year, TSL holds a round of events in local communities to discuss key topics with third sector organisations and people who live there.

Occasionally, the Leadership Group breaks into task and finish groups for discrete pieces of work.

When you give your time to TSL your views and experience will help to influence decisions that are made in Leeds and you will help to ensure that our work truly reflects the views of third sector organisations. You will be a key player in helping us to take the next step in our development and directing our work towards the most important issues for the third sector and for organisations.

We have positions available for people with experience in the following areas:

  • Arts and Culture
  • LGBTQ+
  • Small Groups (turnover less than £20,000 per year)
  • Locality (West Leeds)
  • Locality (East Leeds)

What do I need to do to apply?

When you decide to approach us for one of these positions we’ll invite you for an informal chat about how your experience and values fit with ours. If there is more than one person interested for your position we’ll also use this discussion as the way we decide who we’ll appoint to the position.

Please complete this short Expression of Interest Form: https://forms.office.com/e/aqUfy1yZAK

Fancy a chat to find out more?

For an informal discussion about TSL and the positions we have available please contact Meg Russell on megan.russell@val.org.uk or 0113 297 7928.

Closing date for expression of interest is: Friday 17 February.

The next TSL Leadership Group meeting will be held via Zoom on Monday 20 February, 1.30pm – 3.00pm.
