A new report from the Digital, Culture, Media & Sport Committee, looking at the impact of coronavirus on charities says the government should urgently increase the amount of support available to the voluntary sector through a new stabilisation fund “to prevent charities from folding”, adding that a lack of transparency about how the emergency funds are being allocated could mean “deserving charities will lose out”.
The report, also says the government should review the measures it has put in place to support business to ensure they fully meet the needs of the charity and voluntary sector and that “The scheme should enable furloughed employees of charities to volunteer for their own organisations, providing appropriate safeguards are met”

Council plan to reopen some of the Household Waste Sites.
Leeds City Council have just shared information about their intention to open some of their Household Waste Sites next week – week commencing 11 May. A final decision will be taken later this week. We’ve shared the main points from their press release here – and we’ve added a link to their press release below this post. Please ask us if you have any questions.
Obviously demand is expected to be high – and we’d really encourage you to hold off booking your visit to the Household Waste Sites unless absolutely necessary. We’ll also continue to share ideas and tips on things like home composting. We’re also encouraging people to hold onto things like good quality clothing and other household items, so these can be donated to charity shops once they reopen.

Announcement: Charities are Eligible for Small Business Bounce Back Loans
Businesses will be able to borrow between £2,000 and £50,000 and access to the cash with be announced within days.
Loans will be interest free for the first 12 months, and businesses can apply online through a short and simple form.
Charities are waived from the 50% income criteria
