TSL is Proud to Support the Women Friendly Leeds campaign

Third Sector Leeds
Third Sector Leeds was recently approached by our colleagues at Women Friendly Leeds who are leading work to bring greater gender equality to our city. TSL’s Leadership Group received an update on a survey into women’s experiences and perceptions of safety which shows just how far we still have to go:
- For instance 50% of respondents always or often feel unsafe when walking in the city centre at night
Through initiatives like their current bin truck promotional campaign, promoting ‘Ask for Angela’ and developing a pilot ‘train the trainer’ project for male advocates, Women Friendly Leeds are taking practical steps to make our city a safer, more welcoming and more equal place for women.
At TSL we think a fairer, more equal Leeds is a better place for everyone and we’re encouraging you to stand with Women Friendly Leeds in making change.
We want to be part of the solution, and members of our Leadership Group have already made pledges for what their organisations will do:
- Third Sector Leeds is committed to including gender positive advice in its forthcoming guide on diversity aware recruitment
- Voluntary Action Leeds is investing half of a small grant it received in community led work on gender violence and abuse
- A member of the Faith Forum has signed up to the pilot of the male advocate train the trainer course
- Groundwork’s HR committee will review and identify action they can take
- GIPSIL will take steps to recruit more women with lived experience to their Board of Trustees and to using engagement tools that work for women with lived experience.
- BARCA is committed to promoting the work of Women Friendly Leeds and its Chief Executive Officer will be using their personal profile to draw attention to it.
Find out about things you can do to make a difference and accept Women Friendly Leeds’ call to action.
