Volunteers’ Week is almost here – it’s happening from Tuesday 1st to Monday 7th of June, and we hope you’re as excited as we are!
Volunteers have always been a vital and wonderful part of our city, but the past year has shown how invaluable they really are. The contribution volunteers make to Leeds is massive – and something we can all be thankful for.
This volunteers’ week is an opportunity to say a great big THANK YOU to all the volunteers who give their time and energy to make peoples lives better.
To coincide with volunteers’ week we are excited to announce the opening of our new Volunteer Centre in Leeds Kirkgate Market, in the food court area.
The volunteering team at VAL are excited to be able to support people face to face again. Although the Volunteer Centre will only be open for appointments at the moment it’s a step in the right direction.
There are many opportunities in and around Leeds that are just waiting for the right volunteer. If you think that could be you or someone you know – book an appointment by emailing volunteering@val.org.uk.
This volunteers’ week Leeds will join the whole of Yorkshire in lighting up buildings purple to mark this notable week. Make sure to look out for that spectacle and share a picture if you manage to snap one to spread the word about volunteering and the power of kindness.
We’ll be sharing lots on our social media accounts Twitter, Facebook and Instagram next week to celebrate volunteering. Particularly your messages of thanks to volunteers as well as hearing from volunteers themselves about why they volunteer. Join the conversation by following @VolunteerLeeds and #VolunteersWeek2021.
As part of volunteers’ week why not talk to a friend, colleague or family member about volunteering and think about giving it a go? And most importantly please do show gratitude to those who volunteer.
The more we celebrate and show our appreciation for the huge contribution volunteers make the more people will feel able to get involved and make a difference.
Volunteers’ week 2021, its going to be a good one… and remember, never underestimate the power of kindness.
