Voluntary Action Leeds
There’s not long to submit your application to join VAL’s Board of Trustees!
Being a trustee is a serious commitment but it is also a rewarding experience! Trustees play a vital role in shaping the work and priorities of Voluntary Action Leeds and ensuring the communities we serve are represented and have a voice.
Here are some words from Wendy Tangen, Chair of the Equality and Diversity Sub-Committee.
Hello everyone, my name is Wendy, I identify from an Indian Caribbean ethnicity background with the pronouns She/Her. My role as a trustee member at Voluntary Action Leeds (VAL) has been very rewarding, everyone is welcoming and supportive, and I feel part of VAL’s family.
I decided to become a trustee so that I can influence and advocate for diversity, I wanted to be a role model, to bring a different lens to how decisions are made and to represent my community. To do this I bring many hats to my trustee role, my lived experience as an immigrant, my knowledge and skills working in mental health and most importantly my values that tell me to always do right to my people.
Becoming a trustee has been a positive experience and I strongly recommend it, you too can bring your difference to this role so join VAL’s trustee board.
Wendy Tangen
